Program details

Come and discover the fascinating wall paintings at Gualicho, just 7km outside Calafate City. These impressive paintings consist of a series of mysterious signs, animals and human hands. They are believed to have been the work of the Tehuelche branch of the Mapuche nation around 3000 years ago. The first European to see them was the famous Argentinian explorer Francisco Pascasio Moreno in the late nineteenth century.

When we arrive at this important archaeological site, your knowledgeable local guide will accompany you on a 500m walking tour of the area, providing you with fascinating information about the characteristics of the pre-Tehuelche and Tehuelche cultures. You will also learn all about the singular geological characteristics of the area. You'll also get some stunning views of a deep blue glacial lake.

After the tour it's time to enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate with some delicious local cakes and pastries.
