Program details

Take some time out to enjoy Tangalooma Island Resort, a subtropical escape only 75 minutes from Brisbane. With its winning combination of crystal clear waters, golden sandy beaches, abundant wildlife and untouched national parks, Tangalooma on Moreton Island is a natural wonderland waiting to be explored. You can enjoy a delicious lunch, challenge yourself to sand tobogganing and at sunset, wade into the water to hand feed one of the island’s special visitors, a wild bottlenose dolphin! The experience is unforgettable.

Tangalooma resort was originally a whaling station. Whaling took place between 1952 and 1962 when a collapse in humpback population lowered catch levels and made the activity economically unviable. Australia banned whale hunting in 1963 and since then population has recovered. The environmental impact of the whaling was devastating; with thousands of whales slaughtered and 5% of the original estimated number still alive.

Moreton Island is the third largest sand island in the world and much of it is a national park. It is famed for its crystal clear creeks and lagoons, coastal heath, rocky headlands, abundant wildflowers, sand dunes, picturesque lighthouses, ruins of coastal forts, miles of sandy beaches and shipwrecks. It is a popular destination for excursions, camping, four wheel driving, recreational fishing and whale watching. A few residents live in little settlements.
