Program details

Head into the heart of Sri Lanka and discover the sacred city of Kandy, the ‘lion rock’ of Sigiriya and the historic town of Bambulla. This fascinating two-day tour takes you into a world that few visitors to the country ever see, with visits to such varied attractions as an elephant orphanage and a cave temple.

Begin your adventure with a scenic drive inland, where the climes become cooler, the landscapes more verdant and the countryside hillier. Arrive at the world-famous Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and watch the elephants frolicking in water during their bath time.

Continue to the Giragama tea plantation and factory. See how the world’s favourite leaf is picked and processed, and enjoy a wonderful cuppa of the finest Ceylon tea. Arrive at Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and a Unesco World Heritage Site, and visit the Botanical Gardens. After lunch, enjoy a city tour including a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, an arts and crafts centre and a gem museum (optional). In the evening, watch a cultural show and have dinner before overnighting in three-star accommodation.

On day two, visit a spice garden en route to Sigiriya, where you will visit the 200 metre-high ‘lion rock’ fortress built by King Kashyapa in the fifth century. After lunch you can avail of an optional visit to the Golden Temple of Dambulla and its sacred caves, which house more than 150 statues of Buddha.
