Program details

Former capital of the Portuguese Kingdom in the Middle Ages, Coimbra is better known for its University, one of the oldest academic institutions in Europe. But Coimbra was also the setting for the most beautiful and forbidden love story between Dom Pedro I and Inês de Castro. Coimbra is knowledge, poetry, tradition, Romanesque splendour and its legendary fado singing of longings and reminisces about the past. Take also the time to appreciate Aveiro, with its scenic lagoon and the famous ‘moliceiros’ boats. Originally founded in the time of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, Aveiro is known for its genuine streets of water, light and colour. It’s highly recommended that you sample the delicious “ovos moles”, a speciality egg-based dessert.
