Program details

Delve into the history El Calafate; this stunning Argentinian city is filled with a very rich cultural legacy and has a great many stories to tell. This tour is the perfect way for getting to know some important landmarks while learning about the fascinating history that took place in this wonderful corner of the world.

Begin this enlightening trip the moment you are picked up from your hotel. Alongside your knowledgeable guide you will hear all the amazing stories that hide behind every city highlight. Learn about the history of the region since the very origin of the Andes and the first inhabitants.

See with your very own eyes the houses of the first settlers and then head to Walichu, seven kilometres away from El Calafate, where we can find original rock paintings. Explore the culture of the first inhabitants, the pre-tehuelches, in depth. As well as visiting the lake, enjoy a leisurely walk along the shore of Argentino Lake.

The second part of the tour takes you to El Calafate’s Centre of Historical Interpretation to hear about the history of the southern Patagonia through a variety of enlightening exhibits, timelines, plates with drawings and photos, graphs, tools, replicas and much more.

Cross fourteen thousand years of human and environmental history; for the formation process of the areas glaciers can be uncannily parallel to the development of the tehuelche culture.
