Cycle from your accommodation to a charming herb village on the outskirts of Hoi An, named after the sweetly scented vegetables grown there. Get a feel for small scale agriculture, where locals tend their vegetable patches. Continue to Cam Thanh village. During the Vietnam War, the village acted as a shelter for locals and soliders alike. En route, cycle past paddy fields, fields of corn, a forest of nipa palm and shrimp and crab farms. Visit a local family to learn how the paddy land is farmed. Follow in the footsteps of the farmers, and ride a water buffalo to cultivate the paddy fields. Plant rice, and discover how it is harvested and irrigated. Stop for lunch with a local family to experience the local lifestyle of Hoi An's lovely countryside. Then, cycle back to your hotel full of memories and a better understanding of rural Vietnamese life.
