Program details

Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. There, he meets Kate, the girl next door, Rod the Republican, Trekkie the internet expert, Lucy, and other colorful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life!

The Avenue Q Off Broadway Musical is a coming of age story, addressing and often satirizing the anxieties and issues surrounding the entering of adulthood. Audiences can relate to many of the issues faced by Princeton and his friends, and will laugh at their trials and errors, recounting their own smooth and often less than smooth transitions from awkward teen to slightly less awkward adult!
The Off Broadway venue of Avenue Q ensures a more personal, intimate experience that exacerbates the funny, relaxed atmosphere of the show. Often described as Sesame Street for adults, the classic television show has certainly had a significant influence on the quirky musical, from the inclusion of puppet characters to the lamenting by characters that Sesame Street once convinced them as children that they could do and be anything, which has proved untrue in their adult lives. The show derives much ironic humour from the contrasts between Sesame Street and real life, childhood and adulthood and simplicity and complication.
This creative and rip-roaringly hilarious musical delves into serious topics with comic timing and occasionally raunchy elements that has kept audiences hooked for a decade and will surely continue to do so for decades more.
