Program details

The Chicago Broadway Musical excites and delights from the first scene. Murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery are promised, and the show certainly delivers on its sinister promise.

Chicago is the kiss-and-tell tale of Roxie, a chorus girl who kills her lover as a career move; Billy Flynn, a sharp lawyer who turns Roxie into a celebrity; and Velma Kelly, a dancing jailbird with an ear for headlines and an eye for talent. The six times Tony Award winner is packed with show-stopping songs and incredible dancing to some of the most beautiful jazz music heard on the New York stage. The prison tango has become the iconic image for this stunning show, complete with outstanding costumes and a captivating storyline.
It is unsurprising that the show is the longest running musical on Broadway, recipient of thousands of standing ovations and given the honour of being immortalised an Academy Award-winning film version. Based upon a play of the same name and relating to trials of real murderesses Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner in the 1920s, the musical is unsurprisingly dark and gory, and the audience relishes the scandal, glamour and deceit of the thrilling tale.
Find your foot tapping along to the classic songs, ‘All That Jazz’, ‘Cell Block Tango’ and ‘When You’re Good to Mama’ and weep at the emotional ‘Mr Cellophane’. So step into Prohibition-era Chicago and indulge in your deadliest imaginings of jazz music, sexuality and the concept of an era of celebrity criminality.
