Program details

Take a break from city life and head out to the country to marvel at the amazing ancient redwood trees in Muir Woods before relaxing in the picturesque fishing village of Sausalito.

We start the tour by crossing the iconic Golden Gate Bridge from where you can admire the spectacular views of San Francisco and its bay. Then we drive deep into Marin County famed for its beautiful countryside and amazing biodiversity to explore Muir Wood, a spectacular 550 acre National Park. Home to ancient trees, Muir Wood is a magical place where the sunlight dapples the floor and the wind rustles the leaves. The star attractions are the giant redwoods which reach heights of up to 100 metres. Amazingly the oldest tree is around 1,200 years old (one of the oldest in the world) … if only they could talk!

Having been awestruck by these natural monuments we then continue on our way to the coastal village of Sausalito. Great views of San Francisco and a relaxed Mediterranean style atmosphere make it a fantastic place to chill out. Originally a small isolated fishing village Sausalito has had a mixed history. During prohibition it became a centre for bootlegging and rum runners then during WWII it was transformed into a major ship building yard. Nowadays, it is a much sort after residential area for a wealthy, artistic crowd. Visit the attractive harbour area where you can have a quiet drink or a bite to eat and watch the world go by. Wander around the chic galleries or browse the many boutique shops on offer then admire the spectacular mansions, not to mention houseboats, where some of California’s wealthiest residents live.
