Program details

Located on the shores of the wonderfully named Lake of the Four Forested Cantons, Lucerne is one of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland. This full-day guided excursion will allow you to wander the medieval streets, admire the immaculately preserved ramparts and the cutting-edge modern architecture among many attractions.

Your adventure begins with a scenic coach journey through picturesque landscapes via the Albis Pass and along the shores of Lake Lucerne (though we prefer the more romantic German name above) before arriving at the city.

We begin with a brief city tour of the main sights, taking in the Renaissance-style town hall, the 17th century Jesuit church – regarded as Switzerland’s first baroque religious building – the futuristic Culture and Congress Centre and the the Lion Monument, which was described by Mark Twain as ‘the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world’. We’ll also visit to the symbol of Lucerne: the Chapel Bridge, a diagonal wooden structure dating from 1333 and featuring a series of gable paintings.

You will then have some time to explore the city at your own leisure. Admire the frescoed façades and fairytale turrets of the car-free Old Town. We suggest a visit to the city walls, the Transport Museum or the Rosengart Museum, where works by the artists such as Picasso and Paul Klee are exhibited. Delight yourself with a romantic boat trip on the lake or hop aboard the City Train (from April to October only) or simply take it all in with a stroll along the river or shopping in the medieval streets.
