Program details

Everything associated with Switzerland is consistently considered to be the ‘best’ in the world. From army knives to banks and cuckoo clocks, the country has been blessed with the Midas touch. The same goes for its mountains, cheese and chocolates, the three centrepieces of this delicious full-day tour of the east.

We’ll drive along Lake Zurich to begin the excursion with a sugar rush at the world-famous Lindt luxury chocolate factory. The average Swiss munches through almost 12kg of chocolate a year – more than anyone else – and you will understand just why during this visit.

Our adventure continues on the road to Rapperswil, famed for its medieval castle, and on to the green and hilly region of Appenzell. In the village of Stein, you will visit the cheese factory where the famous Appenzeller cheese is made. Learn more about the cheese making and the ancient traditions of the region.

The excursion hits new heights when we head to Brülisau for a cable car ride to the peak of the 1,800-metre-high Hoher Kasten. From a viewing platform, you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking views over the gently rolling hills of the Appenzellerland, the Rhine Valley and the Austrian region of Vorarlberg. Take a walk through the Alpine Garden and visit the spectacular revolving restaurant (lunch is not included).

After this natural high, we will go for a guided walk through the picture-postcard village of Appenzel. The pedestrian zone with its decoratively painted wooden façades will have you clicking away at your camera before heading back to Zürich.
