Program details

Cross the causeway to Mont Saint Michel, a small rocky island that rises sharply out of the water in the biggest bay in Europe, and be transported to the Middle Ages. Visited by more than three million every year, this attraction combines timeless beauty, historical value and religious allure. The mount sits regally crowned with an Abbey of outstanding history and resonance. It will be love at first sight as you travel to this stunning and memorable location.

Mont Saint Michel holds such a distinctive appeal to visitors because of the very visible relationship between the natural world and the built heritage, as the buildings of the town seem to cling precariously to the side of the rock itself.
The Abbey, rightly named the marvel of the Western World, is still one of the most famous pilgrimage centres since the Middle Ages. Interestingly, after the French Revolution it was utilised for a time as a prison for political prisoners until public pressure demanded it be restored and protected as a national treasure. The abbey was declared a national monument in 87 and the island and its bay were internationally recognised for its human-created and natural beauty as a World Heritage site 1979.
