Program details

Climb the sacred mountain of Montserrat by rack railway and enjoy spectacular views during this spiritually enriching afternoon excursion. Discover a place of pilgrimage for centuries and behold the beauty of Montserrat Natural Park and its rare rock formations. But the star of the show is the Abbey of Montserrat, a Benedictine monastery with almost 1,000 years of history.

After driving through picturesque little villages you will arrive at the incomparable setting of the mountain of Montserrat, rising majestically to 1,235m. To get to the mountain, climb almost 550 metres by the Montserrat rack railway, departing from Monistrol station. The train follows the remarkable contours of the mountains, providing you with unforgettable views of Montserrat and the surrounding countryside.

Montserrat is a natural park containing one of the country's most important museums and the shrine of the patron saint of Catalonia. Visit the Royal Basilica, housing the Moreneta or Black Madonna, a 12th century Romanesque carving. The basilica has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain for centuries.

Enjoy a brief audiovisual presentation and learn all about life behind the monastery walls. Afterwards you will get the chance to taste some liqueurs prepared in the abbey and have plenty of time to explore the attractions of Montserrat for yourselves, including the basilica, the choir, the museums, the cable car and La Moreneta herself.
