Program details

Step into the enchanting world of in Bratislava, named a 'fairytale' by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, who knew a thing or two about them! Be swept up as you are surrounded by castles and palaces, immersed in a thriving cultural scene and greeted by friendly, laid-back locals.

Once a border town of the ancient Roman Empire, the city has been home to Celts, Romans, Hungarians, Jews, and plenty of Slovaks. This impressive cultural diversity is reflected in the city's spellbinding architecture, varied cuisine and language.

Stroll the old town free from traffic and admire the well-preserved medieval quarter, numerous picturesque churches and the President's palace. With the mighty Danube as your scenic backdrop, take your chance to be a 'paparazzo' and visit the statue of the same name. Bratislava's old town is dotted with many such whimsical statues including Cumil, the man emerging from a manhole, and a soldier leaning on a bench.

Sample delicious local flavours over lunch and sip a sumptuous coffee with a tasty pastry at The Black Bean, an esteemed coffee institution. Roam the old town's chic boutiques seeking souvenirs and gifts.

Bratislava Castle beckons from its commanding hilltop standpoint overlooking the city. On site since before the 10th century, this ancient edifice has been destroyed, rebuilt and restored during the last millennium. Today it is home to the Slovak National Museum and Parliament. The castle's imposing square towers and burnt red rooftops evoke the image of a fairytale come to life!
