Program details

Marimurta is a botanical garden unlike any other you have ever seen; it is considered to be the best Mediterranean botanical garden in Europe .

Almost a century ago Karl Faust began creating in this exceptional location on the Costa Brava what is now a stunning botanical garden with more than 4,000 species, dedicated primarily to Mediterranean and sub-tropical flora. It is home to wonderful collections of cacti and other beautiful plants from the arid regions of southern Africa and central America as well as plants endemic to Catalonia. The garden has steep slopes and a large lake, as well a long flight of steps leading to the Temple of Linnaeus which offers stunning views out over the coast and sea.

The plants are grouped into sections: cacti and succulents from the arid regions of South and Central Africa; large subtropical plants: palms, auracarias, cycads etc.; ponds with collections of aquatic plants; exotic plants; medicinal plants; aromatic plants and a collection of ferns found in the mountains of Catalonia.

There is also a rest area with a drinks service. Around the diffferent paths you will find many shaded nooks with inscriptions of evocative poetry, drinking fountains and balconies with memorable views out over the Mediterranean and Costa Brava.
