Program details

The coach journey north to Obidos will take you through a scenic landscape dotted with windmills and orchards. This medieval walled town is famed for its well-preserved hilltop castle and delicious local cherry liqueur.

A short drive away is Alcobaça, where you visit the glorious Gothic monastery that houses the tombs of Pedro and Ines, the tragic lovers who are considered Portugal’s own equivalent of Romeo and Juliet. We have lunch at a restaurant that specialises in fish dishes (only available if you select the option with lunch).

Dessert of a kind will be trip to Nazare, a charming fishing village with large beaches where you will have plenty of time to discover the fascinating legends and traditions of this jewel of Portugal’s Atlantic coast where lunch will be served

From the fresh air of the seaside, head back inland to Batalha a small village with a big attraction: the Dominican Monastery, a late Gothic architectural masterpiece declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. Here lie the remains of Prince Henry the Navigator, who pioneered European exploration and maritime trade with other continents.

The tour will finish with a visit to Fatima, where you can visit the Catholic shrine and even attend Mass.
