Lima old and new comes to life on this fascinating tour that takes in the colonial and modern parts of the city as well as the excellent Archaeological Museum, which boasts the largest collection of pre-colonial artefacts produced by Peru’s ancient civilizations from 12000 BC through to Inca times.
Begin your adventure at the Financial Centre, the San Isidro Golf Course and the Olive Grove Park. You will have the chance to marvel at the ever-so-glorious outside of Huaca Pucllana which is a pretty pre-Inca pyramid-shaped temple that has truly survived the test of time. Stop at the romantic Parque del Amor and enjoy a the views of the Pacific Ocean as you drive down the Miraflores Malecon, a scenic road along the cliffs overlooking the sea.
Visit downtown Lima’s historical centre and admire sights such as the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, the City Hall and the Desamparados Train Station. Visit the baroque San Francisco Monastery and its famous underground catacombs.
The highlight of the tour is the Archaeological Museum, which is housed in an old colonial mansion. This historic building is an ideal setting in which to discover, relive and question the life experiences of our ancestors.
Among the many sections in the museum, there are ones devoted to instruments that show evidence of hunting and gathering activities and a ceramics gallery that displays more 65,000 pieces from different cultures. There are also metal, history, ceramics and human galleries. At the end of the tour you will have a choice to either shop at a colourful Andean Market or return to your hotel.
