Program details

After breakfast, depart for an excursion to Borobudur Temple. The massive stone stupa of Borobudur is one of the greatest of all ancient architectural monuments. Built with forced labour from the surrounding countryside between 750 and 850 AD, Borobudur predates Angkor Wat in Cambodia by three centuries. Its ensembles of stone relief panels are the virtual history of Mahayana Buddhist doctrine, as well as providing scholars with detailed information about life in 8th and 9th century Java. Buried under volcanic ash and tropical growth, it was only rediscovered in 1815. It has recently been fully restored by an international effort under the aegis of UNESCO.

A visit will be made also to Pawon, Mendut Temple. Next to Candirejo Village – which is located about 2 km from Borobudur Temple. Join an exploratory village tour by “Andong” (horse-drawn carriage) and gain insight and knowledge of local customs and traditions, art and handicrafts, traditional health drinks and the agricultural system of intercropping.
