As the helicopter reaches the edge of the canyon itself, the rim gently drops away as the North Rim and the eastern edge come into view, offering a panorama of stunning contrasts.



Follow the Colorado River upstream while enjoying dreamlike views in the distance of the Painted Desert – so called because of the layers of different rock types that have created multi-coloured horizontal bands across the ridges – and the Desert View Watchtower, one of the earliest tourist facilities in the area.
