Program details

The rainforest is one of the planet’s least understood ecosystems. Its difficult access and harsh makes it a challenge for explorers. With us, guests learn how to explore the wonders of the rainforest in complete safety. Just one hour away from San José, the varied topography of our 1,200 acre private reserve connected as a buffer zone to the third largest national park in the country, the Braulio Carrillo National park dares you to discover the rainforest’s mysteries and incredible wild beauty during a trekking tour led by our expert naturalist guides. If guests have an explorer’s spirit and a desire to get to know the rainforest, they love this adventure. This hike offers plenty of action tempered with time to explore the rainforest and the Corinto River.

Our journey begins at the main building of our Atlantic park. Guests who take this experience will be among the first ones to board the Tram, which will transport them to Tower 12. Along the way, they become educated on the proper way to safely explore real primary rainforest, and then they begin the hike down to the Corinto River. Dense primary forest surrounds them. Along the way there are small but difficult ascents, and at times a bit of mud adds to the adventure and challenge. The hike is demanding, but the rewards are fantastic. The river is gorgeous. The crystalline waters gather high in the mountains before they course by guests in the middle of an incredible forest. They can take a refreshing dip in one of the river’s natural pools surrounded by nature in its purest form. After a rest on the riverbank and a well-deserved picnic-style lunch, passengers hike back to Tower 12. This time they walk along the trail that separates the Rainforest Adventures’s reserve from Braulio Carrillo National Park.

By the time guests start heading back, they will have a new understanding of the intricacy of the rainforest. Now that visitors have walked and lived this experience, the sweeping panoramic views become something even more rewarding: they become a window into the world’s most complex community. With our guide, guests bring all the day’s experiences together all of the day’s experiences from this fascinating expedition. Back at our main facilities, they can take a shower and get off all the mud, leaves and branches you might have collected during your hike!
