Maputo City Tour with a Taste

General information

Destination
Maputo, Mozambique

Program details

Maputo, the Mozambican capital city, is a result of several cultural, political and social changes through time. With its subtropical climate, beautiful sheltered bay and blend of Portuguese architecture, African spontaneity and Indo/Portuguese/African cuisine, Maputo has retained much of its colonial mystique.

Modeled on Portuguese harbor cities such as Lisbon and Porto, Maputo’s wide Avenidas (avenues) are lined with pavements inlaid with black-and-white stone mosaics. Laid out in a grid pattern in 1847, the ‘long’ avenues extend at right angles to Avenida da Marginal while the ‘short’ avenues traverse Maputo Hill away from the bay. Here you can feel the fusion of wildlife culture and coast.

The specialized guide will pick you up to visit the most iconic places of Maputo: The Railway Station, The Central Market, FEIMA Art Craft Market, The Fortress, The Museum of Natural History and the Iron House. During the tour, a highlight will be given to the Maputo Central Market and lunch with local dishes.

The Maputo Central Market is the oldest market in Maputo (opened since 1901) and sells a bit of everything. Here you can find and buy the delicious cashew, along with some delicious fruit and some famous spices used on the Mozambican cuisine, like curry and a great variety of piri-piri.

After the visit, time for lunch in a Restaurant with typical Mozambican cuisine, where will have the opportunity to taste all those incredible flavours.
