Did you know that most of the travel through today, was sea until the ‘50s?

Today’s first stop is Giethoorn; which is certainly one of the most picturesque destinations in the Netherlands. Giethoorn is a city with a lot of ancient history which dates back to the Middle Ages. It is one of the most popular tourist villages in our country and has been given the nickname ‘Dutch Venice; this is because it looks very similar to the Venice that everyone knows. As mentioned before, no vehicles are allowed in the old village. This means that the only option to explore Giethoorn is by boat or on foot.

The guide will take you on a short through the village. He/she will also provide you with great tips and facts about Giethoorn and inform you about the local restaurants, shops, attractions, activities and more!

After your city walk, there will be a toilet stop and you will have the possibility to have a lunch somewhere (apple pie and a cup of coffee). Then it’s time to step on board and enjoy a 1-hour cruise through the canals of Giethoorn. After the cruise, you will have some time to explore the village at your own leisure.

Your next and last destination will be; Camp Westerbork Rembrance Cente. The camp is known for its rich history because of the years 1942-1945. During the Second Word War, the camp was known as a refugee camp, which was built in 1939 on behalf of the Dutch government. More than 100.000 Jews and Roma were gathered and held in this camp, until they got transported to other concentration camps. In the memorial center you can get an idea of what happened in our country during the Second World War.

Late afternoon we will return back to Amsterdam.
